SEND and Learning Support

Boston Grammar School has high aspirations and expectations for all our young people. We provide every student with the best possible environment for learning to ensure each student can achieve their full potential appreciating and valuing their own strengths. At Boston Grammar School we work with the students enabling them to overcome barriers, to successfully achieve both academically and being prepared as an adult to become exceptional members of the community. 

We recognise that most students find they can progress with the help of their subject teachers and tutors but some students may require tailored and targeted support beyond this of a temporary or permanent nature. We seek to embrace the needs of all ensuring that students with identified needs are able to access the full curriculum complying with the SEN Code of Practice (January 2015) and Equality Act 2010.

Examples of need we have successfully supported include:

• Dyslexia
• Slow Processing
• Physical Disabilities such as visual or hearing impairment
• Autistic Spectrum Condition  
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
• Mental health and emotional issues
• Chronic Medical Conditions

Review meetings and family feedback

The SEND department hold regular monthly meetings for parents/carers to discuss concerns they may have about their children. They are held once a month on a Tuesday from 3.30pm until 5pm.

We also gather information from our families several times in a year through questionnaires, meetings, phone calls and more. We are fortunate to have such supportive families working with us as we constantly review and improve our provision for students with SEND.

A comment from a previous gathering of data included "How do staff know my son’s needs?" which led us to develop our learning passports displaying strategies that could be used to support a student. A subsequent comment has been "Thank you for all your hard work, your knowledge of and care for ____ is amazing".
